Why I started writing online

A public log of thoughts and projects — and the motivation to put things out there.

There’s a version of the internet that I find genuinely exciting: people thinking out loud, sharing what they’re working on, posting rough drafts of ideas that aren’t fully formed yet.

I’ve been a reader of that internet for a long time. What I haven’t done is contributed to it.

I’m hoping to change that with this site.

Why now?

While shooting out some job applications, I kept seeing a section for your website, your portfolio etc.

I figured,

eh, might as well try to put something out there.

The idea of owning a domain was also a big push.

You mean I get to put my name on the internet and I can have people send emails to my name? Where do I sign up?

Silly, but effective for my mind.

I’ve noticed that the people I find most interesting online aren’t necessarily the most credentialed or the most prolific — they’re the ones willing to share what they’re actually thinking about. The unfinished things. The questions they can’t quite answer yet.

Writing forces you to find out what you actually think. You can have an opinion locked in your head and it feels solid until you try to articulate it, and then you realize you don’t quite have it yet. The process of writing is the thinking.

I would imagine for someone in tech, writing feels like somewhat of a creative endeavour. That’s how I viewed it. That’s also why I probably steered away from it. What do I actually do that’s worth writing about? I’m not an expert in anything. I’m not a thought leader.

I’m just a guy who likes trying out new things and giving up on them just as quickly. Let’s hope this will be the impetus for me to push through that barrier.

What I’ll post here

Honestly, I’m not setting strict rules. Things I find interesting. Projects I’m working on. Occasional thoughts on how things work, technical and otherwise.

If even one post ends up being useful to someone who finds it via a search(or an LLM response) three years from now, that’s enough.

Welcome to my site.
